Training the Trainers
There are a number of approaches to the education of preservation professionals
and librarians, ranging from one-day workshops to lengthy academic and internship
programs. All of them have advantages and disadvantages. This section will
discuss some of the main strategies for educating preservation professionals
and staff, stressing the importance this has for later educational programs
led by those same people. The concept is to "train the trainers," teaching
practical and theoretical skills that will later be passed on to others, in
either formal educational programs or advisory/consultancy setups. In large
part, "training the trainers" programs are designed to address the
preservation challenges of a particular region, with participants drawn from
that region.
